Visual recollections continually dance in my head
until I give them another place to live.

Debra Clemente

Debra Clemente's boldly graphic
and energetic oil paintings
express her colorful, luminescent,
and optimistic views of life.
Her painting process is as unique
as each work of art she creates.
Wielding one tool, a large sturdy
palette knife, Clemente paints: mixing,
smoothing,
layering,
pushing,
scratching
and scraping
oil paint
on canvas.
The resulting work retains the
evidence of her energy and passion,
delighting the eye from a distance
as well as upon close study.

About the Artist

Picture
Debra Clemente, of Lawrence, Kansas has had the opportunity to express herself creatively in many ways through the years as she worked along side her husband in their varied business endeavors from home design and construction, to land development, to owning a restaurant, all while raising a family. When her children reached school age Debra began her self directed explorations into fine art painting which quickly became her passion.

A particular honor for the Kansas artist is having one of her large sunflower field paintings installed directly over the Kansas Governor’s desk in the Kansas Capitol Building. Debra and her husband David, whom have made their home in Lawrence since their college days are now empty-nesters. She sees it as new opportunity. “My skills have developed over the years,” says Debra, “This is my time.”
